CGI standards are known thru-out the
Caribbean and United States to be some of the highest in the industry. The
impact these standards have made on the Caribbean Region has been astounding. Other
business's have noticed the success of CGI Jewelers and have tried to imitate our
standards. Not all jewelers meet the criteria of being a CGI Jeweler, our grading of
gems and jewelry is tough and strictly adheres to GIA guidelines.
Who benefits from all this?
The consumer. They can easily identify stores and merchants who will treat
them fairly by looking for the CGI seal in the window. They can be confident
that the item they bought is genuine, everything clearly marked. That the
watch dealer who sells them that designer watch is authorized and is not involved in the
"gray Market." That after the sale, if they have a problem
they can call the merchant or the Carigem office and be treated fairly and with
respect. We listen to consumers praises and complaints, and take these into
consideration when renewal time comes.
We highly encourage the customer
to educate themselves prior to their visit to the duty free shops. Compare the
quality of jewelry and gemstones available to them in the US prior to their trip. An
informed consumer always does well. Gone are the days of the "Caribbean
Wild, Wild West." Today the Islands are well known as a source of
world class Jewelry, Gemstones and Designer Watches. It truly has earned the
name, "America's Jewelry Box."
Today CGI has grown into an
International company known as Carigem, with the main office in Southwest Florida, our
fully staffed office in heart of the Jewelry district in St Thomas, and our soon to open
offices in Aruba and Jamaica.
Where CGI evaluates the quality of
gemstones and jewelry, Carigem International is evaluating the Jeweler on how they do
business, before, during and after the sale. The gemological staff makes
frequent visits to the various Islands to visit member stores, complete gemological
quality reports, and work with the jewelers and sales staff to educate them on current
Gemological trends. We continue our role as consumer advocates, keeping customers
happy is a win-win situation for all.
The standards of business practice
in the Caribbean have been raised in the past twelve years. The Jewelry
Industry has started to notice the success of the CGI jewelers and have been working at
setting their own standards. While many jewelry markets in the world have been
stagnant, the Caribbean continues to grow and flourish.
